In cooperation with the Estonian Music Council and the Estonian Phonogram Producers Union, the Classical Album of the Year 2023 was revealed. It is the album "Estonian Premieres" recorded by the Estonian Festival Orchestra and conductor Paavo Järvi, released by Alpha Classics.
The Estonian Festival Orchestra and conductor Paavo Järvi's third album "Estonian Premieres" features six works by five esteemed Estonian composers premiered by the EFO. According to conductor Paavo Järvi, the album shows how rich and multi-layered the music of Estonian composers truly is.
The album includes To the Moonlight (2020) by Tõnu Kõrvits, Ülo Krigul's Chordae (2013) and The Bow (2021), Helena Tulve's L'ombre derrière toi (2011), overture by Tauno Aints entitled Estonia (2014), and Olympic Music I by Lepo Sumera (1980).
The album was recorded in cooperation with the international record company Outhere Music (under the Alpha Classics label), with whom Paavo Järvi and the Estonian Festival Orchestra also recorded the first two albums.
“Järvi has long championed his homeland’s orchestral composers, and the combination of his tautly expressive Estonian Festival Orchestra (EFO) and the five creatively diverse voices here is captivating.” — (BBC Music Magazine, September 2022)
