XIII Estonian Composers’ Festival

From June 2–8, Estonian Composers’ Festival will be held in Tartu for the 13th time. Festival presents several premieres of new works by Estonian composers: Jüri Reinvere’s The Arrival at the Ligurian Sea, Tatjana Kozlova-Johannes’s Fall, Lauri Jõeleht’s Chant Harmonique, Liisa Hirsch’s 4 Glides for Five, Mart Siimer’s Ipsum esse, Monika Mattiesen’s …Every 100th Second Changes Its Direction… and Age Veeroos’s Still-life with Empty Swing. Also music by Helena Tulve, Mati Kuulberg, Mingo Rajandi, Eduard Tubin, Cyrillus Kreek, Rudolf Tobias, Toivo Tulev, Erkki-Sven Tüür and Mari Vihmand and foreign composers Jagoda Szmytka, Enno Poppe, Nicolai Worsaae, Chikako Morishita, Michaël Levinas, Javier Elipe Gimeno (first performance) will be performed.

The central concert venue of the festival is St. John’s Church in Tartu. The seven-day festival features ensemble mosaik from Germany with flutist Monika Mattiesen (on June 2 at St. John’s Church and also June 3 at Estonia Concert Hall in Tallinn) and Figura Ensemble from Denmark (on June 5 at St. John’s Church) and acknowledged musicians from Estonia: Avarus Ensemble (on June 4 at St. John’s Church), Vanemuine Symphony Orchestra, Vanemuine Opera Choir, Tartu Youth Choir, Tartu University Chamber Choir, Tartu Academic Male Choir, Academic Women's Choir of the University of Tartu and soloists under the guidance of Lauri Sirp (on June 6 at Vanemuine Concert Hall), festival ensemble – Age Juurikas (piano), Kaija Lukas (violin), Andres Kaljuste (viola), Kristian Plink (cello), Leonora Palu (flute), Meelis Vind (clarinet), Vigo Uusmäe (horn), Aarne Ots (trumpet), Vambola Krigul (percussion) and Tammo Sumera (electronics) (on June 7 at St. John’s Church) and ensemble Cyberstudio (on June 8 at St. John’s Church). Also composition students and contemporary chamber music ensemble of Tartu Heino Eller Music School will perform within the festival. Additionally, the public discussions will follow the concerts.
