Tõnu Kõrvits represents Estonia at the World New Music Days

Annual ISCM World New Music Days presents this year Tõnu Kõrvits’s Chaconne (2008) for solo viola. The piece will be performed at the concert of Slovak violinist Milan Paľa in Košice Kasárne/Kulturpark on November 7. Festival takes place from November 4 to 14 in Austria and Slovakia, more precisely Košice, Bratislava and Vienna.

Milan Paľa gives a concert together with pianist Marián Lejava, program includes also music by Turkish, Flanders, Irish, Japanese, Romenian, Swedish and Polish composers. Kõrvits’s music has been perfomed at the mentioned festival before: Canon for high voices in Zagreb 2011 and Beyond the Solar Fields for bassoon and symphony orchestra in Hong Kong 2007.

Organiser of the festival – the International Society for Contemporary Music (ISCM) is an important international network of members from around fifty countries, devoted to the promotion and presentation of contemporary music. Estonian representative in ISCM – Estonian Composers’ Union submitted to this year’s festival works of Tõnu Kõrvits, Märt-Matis Lill, Malle Maltis, Kristo Matson, Ardo Ran Varres and Liis Viira, from which the council of ISCM selected Kõrvits’s piece.
