Siim Aimla, one of the most influential figures on the Estonian jazz scene, is celebrating his fiftieth birthday on 1 November – a milestone that deserves a grand celebration! At this year’s Christmas Jazz festival, the devoted saxophonist, multi-instrumentalist, composer and renowned band leader will premiere his brand new work, 21st Century Blues, a piece Aimla says he wrote for the big band of his dreams.

Christmas Jazz 2024: Oleg Pissarenko “Seisundi muusika”
The phenomenon of mindfulness, the infinite multilayeredness of the human inner world, and the incredible possibilities that open up on invisible levels – these are the dimensions of the Great Unknown into which we will dive with Oleg Pissarenko’s latest work. At the concert in the Kumu Auditorium, pieces from the album Seisundi Muusika (Music of Your Condition) will be performed by the composer on a specially prepared piano and acoustic guitar.

For one night only, exclusively at Christmas Jazz, the Alexela Concert Hall will host an electrifying tribute to the unique and unparalleled Frank Zappa! Conductor Kaspar Mänd, soloists Vaiko Eplik and Valter Soosalu, and a 30-piece orchestra, along with a jazz ensemble featuring top Estonian musicians, will unravel one of the greatest musical enigmas of the 20th century.

The opening concert of the festival will feature the talented young pianist. What will be awarded as a prize at the 10th Estonian Pianist Competition, and we are honored that he will choose the program for our concert himself. The concert will feature two outstanding Estonian performers – Sigrid Kuulmann (violin) and Piret Väinmaa (piano). They will perform a selection of Mozart's violin music, woven into a harmonious whole. We are honored that they will be performing their unique program at our festival.

The third concert will feature a rare trio – Marko Martin (piano) with his talented children Maria Martin (cello) and Erik Martin (violin). Maria and Erik study at the Tallinn Music and Ballet School (Muba) and have already attracted attention at several competitions and festivals. The program will feature cello pieces and violin works, as well as Beethoven's magnificent and tragic sonata. Come and discover the classics of the great Viennese tradition!

For the first time in the history of our festival, the harpsichord will be played – the very instrument on which Mozart composed his music. The beautiful sounds of this brilliant keyboard instrument will be brought to you by Julia Ageyeva Hess, an internationally renowned Estonian musician currently living in Germany. In addition to Mozart's works, the concert will also feature works by other composers from the same era.
