Misatango
We are constantly longing for variety, new challenges, and fresh musical experiences—something that excites not only the singers and conductors but also the listeners. With the arrival of spring, we felt it was the perfect moment to bring Misatango to the stage: a powerful work for orchestra and soloist, where sensual passion and sacred solemnity are woven together with the mastery only the fiery Argentine composer Martín Palmeri can deliver.
As a special treat, this concert also offers another musical gem—The Beauty of Evening by Pärt Uusberg, a piece of captivating beauty and meticulously crafted musical language.
In the spirit of anticipating summer, allow yourself an hour of music that both feeds the soul and gently stirs it—helping you reflect on the magnificence of being alive.
Martín Palmeri (1965, Argentina) is an Argentinian composer and conductor. His major work, "Misa a Buenos Aires," also known as Misatango, combines sensual passion and sacredness. This Latin tango mass is composed in the style of nuevo tango for mezzo-soprano, mixed choir, bandoneón, piano, and string orchestra. The piece has achieved international acclaim and has been performed in various concert halls around the world, often with the composer himself playing the piano part.
Pärt Uusberg (1986, Estonia) is an Estonian composer and conductor. "Õhtu ilu" (Evening Beauty) is, for me, a kind of summary of a longer process. It began in Rapla, singing in the Riinimanda choirs under my mother's guidance, and falling in love with choral music. It has smoothly matured into the musical life situation I experience today. In its own way, "Õhtu ilu" is like a thank you song for childhood," Pärt Uusberg has said about the work.
These two masterworks will be performed in the magnificent acoustics of Temppeliaukio Church by a united choir of over 100 singers and four choirs, an orchestra, and soloists from Finland, Estonia, France, and Germany. The concert will take place on one evening and only once, but the music heard will resonate in the hearts of the audience and performers long after the performance.
The rhythmic melodies of tango will be played by Estonian bandoneón virtuoso Kaspar Uljas. The mezzo-soprano part will be sung by the silvery-voiced Maarja Purga from Cologne, and the piano part will be played by brasilian-french pianist Samuel Bezzerra.
The concert will be without intermission and will last 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Tickets priced at 25/17 are available at tiketti.fi and 30/20 at Temppeliaukio Church one hour before the concert.
