Registration for the IX Estonian Piano Competition, taking place on 20–29 November 2019, is open to all Estonian citizens and foreign students studying in Estonia. The competition consists of three rounds and the final round gives the best competitors the chance to perform with the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra. All rounds will take place in the new concert hall of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre that will be opened to celebrate its 100th anniversary.

There are three foreign members in the five-member jury, including the jury chairman Professor Graham Scott (Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester). In the second round, all competitors will perform the new piece by Pärt Uusberg as the mandatory work by an Estonian composer.

The young and talented conductor Jaan Ots will make his debut with ENSO during the final orchestra rounds of the concert. Ots, after graduating from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre in piano and obtaining a master’s degree in orchestra conducting at the Sibelius Academy, has participated in the workshops of Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Neeme Järvi, Paavo Järvi, Thomas Sanderling, and David Zinman. He has already collaborated with several famous orchestras and theatres.
