Jaan-Eik Tulve

After obtaining his diploma in choral conducting at the Estonian Academy of Music in 1991, Jaan-Eik Tulve learned to conduct Gregorian chant at Conservatoire de Paris, where he attained a diploma in 1993. He then worked at the CNSM as assistant to Louis-Marie Vigne, who had a significant influence on his musical development. He has given many courses in Gregorian chant in Europe and Israel and conducts work sessions in monasteries. In his musical training he has learned a great deal from his work with Dom Daniel Saulnier of Solesmes Abbey. In 1996, he took up a post teaching Gregorian chant at the Estonian Academy of Music.

In 1992, Tulve became the conductor of the Paris Gregorian Choir. Many of the recordings made with the choir have received critical acclaim (Diapason d’Or). In 1993, he formed the Lac et Mel ensemble in Paris and in 1994 the female voice section of the Paris Gregorian Choir. In 1996, he formed the Vox Clamantis ensemble in Tallinn.

Jaan-Eik Tulve has been awarded the Prize of the Cultural Endowment of Estonia (2006), the 5th Class Order of the White Star of the Republic of Estonia (2007) and the Order of Léopold of the Kingdom of Belgium and the Order of Arts and Letters of the French Republic. The Estonian Public Broadcasting named him the Musician of the Year 2017.
