Niina Murdvee

Niina Murdvee graduated as a violinist from the Tallinn Music High School in 1968 with Ivi Tivik and from the Tallinn State Conservatoire in 1973 with Vladimir Alumäe and Harald Aasa. She continued her studies at Gnessen Pedagogical Music Institute with Halida Ahtjamona and graduated it in 1987. In 2008 Murdvee completed her PhD studies at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theater.

Murdvee is a teacher at the Tallinn Music High School and Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. Her students have been Kristel Pappel, Tarmo Truuväärt, Mikk Murdvee, Kristjan Hallik, Mari Taro, Danae Taamal and others. In addition, she has actively participated in international conferences and courses in Estonia, Finland, Germany and Russia. She also organizes string players master classes and courses in Estonia.

Niina Murdvee has given concerts in Estonia, Russia and Sweden. Her most frequent ensemble partners have been Nata-Ly Sakkos and Piret Aidulo. She has also performed with Vello Sakkos, Heljo Sepp, Peeter Paemurru, Piia Paemurru, Rolf Uusvälja, Kadri-Ann Sumera and others. She has made recordings for Estonian Radio and Television and premiered a number of violin pieces from Estonian composers. Niina Murdvee has a special closeness to the music of Heino Eller, Ester Mägi and Lepo Sumera.

She has written many music articles and reviews and from 1989 to 2002 she was the editor of the magazine „String teacher“. In 2017, she compiled a book about Estonian violinist and pedagogue Vladimir Alumäe (released by Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre).
