Mirjam Mesak

b. August 23, 1990, Tallinn

Estonian soprano Mirjam Mesak graduated in 2006 from The Music School of Tallinn, playing the piano under the tutelage of Heli Taar. She received both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in voice from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama with a First Class Honours under the tutelage of Prof. Rudolf Piernay. From the season 2018/19 she is a member of the Opera Studio at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich.

Mirjam has worked with the finest singers and coaches including Helmut Deutsch, Graham Johnson, Edith Wiens, Birgitta Fassbender, Eugene Asti, Julius Drake, Stephan Loges. Mirjam has performed as a soloist in several of London’s renowned concert halls such as the Barbican Hall, Milton Court Concert Hall (including as part of the LSO’s This is Rattle festival), and Wigmore Hall.

Recent opera engagements include Mimi (Puccini's La Bohéme) with Clonter Opera and Iolanta (Tchaikovsky's Iolanta), Papagena (Mozart's Die Zauberflöte), Erste Geist/Erste Uhr (Krenek's Karl V) and Blumenmädchen (Wagner's Parsifal) at the Bayerische Staatsoper, to name a few.

Season 2019/20 at the Bayerische Staatsoper includes roles such as Juliette (Korngold's Die Tote Stadt), Taumannchen (Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel), Esmeralda (Semtana's Die verkaufte Braut), Xenia (Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov), Mignon (Thomas's Mignon) and Gianetta (Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore). Concert highlights include Beethoven 9th with the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra (conductor Kahchun Wong).

Mirjam’s studies were generously supported by Help Musicians UK, Estonian Students Fund and Guildhall School Trust. In 2019 she was awarded the Bavarian Art Prize in the section Performing Arts (Bayerische Kunstdörderpreis in Der Sparte Darstellende Kunst).
