In 2017 Marianna Liik graduated from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre with Master’s degree in composition with Helena Tulve and Margo Kõlar. She obtained in the same school Bachelor’s degree in electro-acoustic composition in 2014 under the tutelage of Malle Maltis and Margo Kõlar. During 2017–2018 she improved her skills in The Royal Conservatoire Antwerp (Koninklijk Conservatoire Antwerpen) as a student of Wim Henderickx.
Marianna Liik has written music for orchestra, ensembles and choir as well as electroacoustic works. Her special interest is the sound world that is created by combining the acoustic and electronic means of expression. Liik's music has been in the programmes of many festivals in Estonia, as well as in the USA, Poland, Germany, Russia, Australia, Switzerland, China.
Marianna Liik’s composition Mets (Forest) was awarded the second prize at the International Rostrum of Composers in Prague in 2013 in the category of composers under 30 years. In November 2014, Marianna Liik won the Westdeutscher Rundfunk film music award at the competition SoundTrack_Cologne 11. In 2017, Liik was awarded Lucerne Festival Academy prize Roche Young Commissions. For her successful creative year, Marianna Liik was given the Award of the Endowment for Music of the Cultural Endowment of Estonia in 2023.
