World premiere of „Helios Helios” by Tõnu Kõrvits in Australia

On April 11, Tõnu Kõrvits’s „Helios Helios” for two violoncellos and orchestra will be premiered at the opening concert of Adelaide International Cello Festival in Adelaide Town Hall. Piece will be performed by Adelaide Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Arvo Volmer, soloists will be twin cellists Pei-Jee and Pei-Sian Ng.

Similarly to his recent years’ music, Tõnu Kõrvits turns to Estonian nature and folklore also in his new piece. Work with subtitles „Day, Come On Out”, „Song Of The Sun”, „Hoots”, „Cease, Dear Rain”, „Rainbow”, „The Beauty Of The Evening” is based on the Estonian pastorals and sunspells. The other source of inspiration is a book by the Estonian ex-president and a writer, Lennart Meri, „Silverwhite” which talks about the Kaali meteor and it’s impact on the Estonian folklore. The piece is dedicated to the performers.
