Vox Clamantis and Weekend Guitar Trio in London

February 20 – 22, Estonian Embassy in London celebrates the anniversary of the Estonian Republic with concerts of vocal ensemble Vox Clamantis and Weekend Guitar Trio. Concert titled as “Stella matutina” combines Gregorian chant, early polyphony and guitar improvisations. Collaboration of these ensembles started with the same programme in 2003. Concerts will take place on February 20 at 1.15 p.m. in St. Paul’s Cathedral, February 21 at 6 p.m. in Banqueting House and February 22 at 7 in St. Anne and St. Agnes Church.

Main repertoire of the vocal ensemble Vox Clamantis is Gregorian chant and early polyphony, they have performed contemporary music as well. Several Estonian composers, Toivo Tulev, Helena Tulve, Erkki-Sven Tüür, Andres Uibo and Tõnis Kaumann among them, have written for Vox Clamantis. Continuous collaboration with different musicians has given a birth to improvisational programmes based on jazz music with Weekend Guitar Trio, saxophonist Villu Veski, American percussionist Brian Melvin. Ensemble has given concerts also with electro-acosutical Cyberstudio and early music consort Hortus Musicus. Artistic director of Vox Clamantis is Jaan-Eik Tulve.

Weekend Guitar Trio (Robert Jürjendal, Tõnis Leemets and Mart Soo) was founded in 1993. Ensemble produces composed and improvised music for 3 electric guitars and electronics. Trio has performed at several jazz festivals in Europe and at contemporary music festivals in Estonia and Germany. They have released 4 CDs.
