Virgo Veldi’s and Heiki Mätlik’s concert Saxofolia

On October 9 at 7 pm, Virgo Veldi and Heiki Mätlik will perform in Harmi manor. The concert program, entitled Saxofolia or Saxophone Craze, consists of music by Johann Sebastian Bach, Cyrillus Kreek (Love Song from 13th Century), Arcangelo Corelli, Artur Lemba (Sonatina-Suite), Darius Milhaud and Heitor Villa-Lobos.

Virgo Veldi has graduated from Georg Ots Tallinn Music School (1988), Tallinn Conservatory (1993) and Sibelius Academy (2004) in saxophone class. He has been awarded many prizes at different competitions. From 1991 to 2001 he was a saxophone teacher at Georg Ots Tallinn Music School and since 2001 at Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. Virgo Veldi has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in Estonia and abroad. He has appeared together with Ralf Taal, Mati Mikalai, Nata-Ly Sakkos, Kai Ratassepp, Piia Paemurru, Ulla Krigul, Aare-Paul Lattik, Ines Maidre, many Estonian orchestras and NYYD Ensemble. Since 1999 Virgo Veldi has been the member and musical director of the Saxophone Quartet Saxest.

Guitar player Heiki Mätlik is well-known as a soloist, ensemble partner and a teacher. He has graduated from Tallinn Georg Ots Music School (1979) as classical guitarist. He has improved his skills in Moscow under the guidance of Juri Judin and many master classes. Since 1990 Mätlik is a guitar lecturer at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. He has given master classes in Estonia and abroad. Mätlik has performed in the Baltic states, in Nordic and other European countries (e.g. at many music festivals) and in Australia, Russia, USA and Canada. He has collaborated with several well-known Estonian and foreign vocal and instrumental soloists (Leili Tammel, Samuel Saulus, Arvo Leibur, Henry-David Varema, Urmas Vulp, Andres Uibo, Jaak Sooäär, Per Skareng, Kari Äikäs), and with acclaimed conductors like Mika Eichenholz, Paul Mägi and Toomas Vavilov. Mätlik has recorded more than 40 CDs and DVDs, released by Harmonia Mundi (USA), Warner Music (USA), Antes (Germany), Forte (Estonia), Alba Records (Finland) etc. In 2007, American publishing house Mel May gave out lexicon Guitar and Lute Composers compiled by Heiki Mätlik and Hannu Annala.
