VII Viljandi Guitar Festival

From October 14 to 18, Viljandi Guitar Festival will be held for the 7th time in Viljandi. Festival features musicians both from Estonia and abroad: Jonathan Kreisberg Quartet (USA), Håkan Goohde Trio (Seden), Kalevi Uibo (France), Jarmo Saari (Finland), Olga Shishkina (Finland), Jon Gomm (UK), Erko Niit, Tõnu Tubli, Raul Vaigla, Kristo Käo, Ain Agan and Robert Jürjendal, Mart Soo Quartet, Viljandi Guitar Trio (Jalmar Vabarna, Argo Vals, Jaan Jaago), Aces of Basses (Raul Vaigla, Peedu Kass, Mihkel Mälgand, Mai Agan, Ahto Abner) and Paul Daniel Quartet (Paul Daniel, Raun Juurikas, Peedu Kass, Kaspar Kalluste). The concerts will take place at Estonian Traditional Music Center, Old Water Tower, Viljandi Puppet Theatre, Jazz Club and St. John’s Church.

Additionally, workshops for students, night jams, guitars’ craftsmen day will take place and annual Tiit Paulus Young Guitar Palyer’s Prize in order to help an outstanding young Estonian musician further his or her education in guitar playing will be given out.

The aim of the Viljandi Guitar Festival is to promote improvisational and stylistic guitar playing. During the festival, people may hear improvisational guitar players who represent different genres and get to know about different improvisational techniques and types of guitar. The event brings together guitarists from Estonia and abroad, thereat developing international cooperation concerning guitar playing. Workshops for students are also a vital part of the festival.

The artistic director of the festival is Ain Agan.
