Tiina Kiilaspea

In 1965, Tiina Kiilaspea graduated in choral conducting and music theory from the Tallinn Music High School where she also studied composition with Uno Naissoo and Veljo Tormis. In 1970, she graduated from the Tallinn Conservatoire in choral conducting with Prof. Gustav Ernesaks and in composition with Eino Tamberg in 1973.

From 1970–1973, she was a teacher at the Tallinn Pedagogical Institute and from 1973–1986 at the Tallinn Conservatoire. Tiina Kiilaspea had conducted the Tallinn Students’ Mixed Choir (1967–1979), mixed choir Olevine (1979–1983) and the Tallinn Teachers’ Female Choir (1990–1994).

Tiina Kiilaspea has written mainly choral songs and songs for children for which she has been awarded at several composition contests. Her song "Star diamonds" got the 2nd prize in mixed choir category at the Estonian patriotic choral song contest I love you, Estonia in 2007 and "Chimney swallow" deserved the 2nd prize in female choir category in 2004. At the contest for new mixed choir songs, organised by the Estonian Mixed Choirs’ Union and the Estonian Composers’ Union in 1999, Kiilaspea’s "Prayer" got the 3rd prize. At the composition contest of Estonian Music Days Festival in 1998, the choral song "In the most beautiful evening of the year" received the 2nd prize. In 1969, Kiilaspea won the 1st prize in the All-Union Young Composers’ Competition for four choral songs.
