Sigrid Kuulmann

Sigrid Kuulmann graduated from the Tallinn Music High School, where she studied violin with Tiiu Päeske. In 1997, she graduated from the Estonian Academy of Music as a violin student of Tiiu Päeske and Jüri Gerretz. Additional studies comprise Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 1997–1999 (Advanced Instrumental Studies Course with Yfrah Neamann) and Robert Schumann School of Music and Media in 2000–2002 (Konzertexamen, Prof. Rosa Fain). She has participated at several master courses by Igor Bezrodny, Michaela Martini, Tuomas Haapanen, Halida Ahtjamova, Zvi Zeitlini, Zarius shihmurzayeva, Pavel Vernikov, Dmitri Sitkovetsky and Aleksander Fischer. In June 2014 Sigrid Kuulmann  obtained doctor's degree from Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre under the guidance of Mari Tampere-Bezrodny.

Sigrid Kuulmann has worked as a teacher at Tallinn Music High School (1994–1997) and contiunes working at same school since 2002. Since 2007 Sigrid Kuulmann is pedagogue at Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre and since 2012 concertmaster of Glasperlenspiel Sinfonietta. She has played at the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra (2002–2004), Estonian National Symphony Orchestra (concertmaster, 2004–2005) and at the National Opera Orchestra (2011–2012).

Sigrid Kuulmann is an active musician both as a soloist and chamber musician. She has gained recognition as a performer of Estonian composers’, especially Eduard Tubin’s works and has been first performer of rare and new repertoire in Estonia as Taavi Virkhaus’s 2nd Violin concerto, Witold Lutoslavski’s Partita, Luciano Berio’s Sequenza VIII, Georges Bizet - Franz Waxman's Carmen Fantasy etc. She has performed with Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, the Vanemuine Symphony Orchestra, Hortus Musicus Academic Orchestra, Kuopio Symphony Orchestra, NYYD Ensemble and Eduard Tubin String Quartet and cooperated with conductors as Neeme Järvi, Andres Mustonen, Tõnu Kaljuste, Jüri Alperten, Nicholas Smith, Gregory Rose, Andrei Tšistjakov, Mihhail Leontjev ect.  She has performed at numerous music festivals in Estonia and abroad.

Sigrid Kuulmann has made several recordings for the Estonian Public Broadcast including Jean Sibelius’s Violin Concerto with Estonian National Symphony Orchestra. In co-production with Estonian Broadcasting Company and Estonian Record Productions Sigrid Kuulmann has released several CD-s, most recently in 2012 works for violin and piano by Eduard Tubin, with pianist Marko Martin.

Sigrid Kuulmann has gained recognition at competitions including Laureate title at the Heino Eller International Violin Competition and Neeme Järvi Prize for her performances of music by Eduard Tubin.

Sigrid Kuulmann belongs to Association of Estonian Professional Musicians (since 2003) and International Eduard Tubin Society (since 2004). Sigrid Kuulmann holds the scholarships of Association of Estonian Professional Musicians, Estonian Foundation of Culture and Pille Lill Music Fund from 2007 until today.
