Orthodox Singers 25th jubilee concert

Orthodox Singers jubilee concerts will take place:
April 13 at 4 pm, Loksa Church of Saint Mary
April 13 at 7 pm, St. Lawrence Church in Kuusalu
April 21 at 7 pm, St Mary's Cathedral, Tallinn
May 11 at 7 pm, Hageri St. Lambertus Church

The program consists of the most beautiful works from different eras and styles including Belarusian, Greece, Serbian and Bulgarian music as well as religious works by Pyotr Tchaikovsky and Pavel Tchesnokov. It is also the first time for the collective to perform so-called Russian Baroque music - Resurrection Canon, odes and the religious music oeuvre of Czar Peter the Great.



Orthodox Singers was formed in 1989 and is one of the best choir ensembles in Estonia. It has received awards at several international competitions and participates frequently in various European music festivals. The primary creative focus of the choir is early Orthodox chant, their repertoire also includes great works of Russian sacred choral literature as compositions by Pavel Chesnokov, Alexander Arkhangelsky and Sergei Rachmaninoff as well as arrangements of Russian folk songs of a spiritual nature. In the last several years, the ensemble's repertoire has also come to include the music of contemporary Orthodox composers, among them Sir John Tavener, Valery Kalistratov and Arvo Part. The ensemble's concert programs also include music of Estonian composers Kirillus Kreek, Kuldar Sink, Veljo Tormis and Arvo Pärt.
