Neeme Järvi conducts Erkki-Sven Tüür’s 4th symphony „Magma” in New Jersey

Percussionist Evelyn Glennie and New Jersey Symphony Orchestra under the baton of its musical director Neeme Järvi will give a North American premiere of Erkki-Sven Tüür’s Symphony No. 4 Magma. Performances will take place on October 10 AT 8 pm in New Jersey Performing Arts Center, Newark and October 12 at 3 pm in State Theatre, New Brunswick. Concert program also includes Benjamin Britten’s Four Sea Interludes from Peter Grimes and Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations.

In parallel to concerts, Tüür also gives a lectures about his music in several univeristies in USA (New York University, Juilliard School of Music, Princeton University, Montclaire State University).

Symphony No. 4 Magma (2002) is dedicated to percussion virtuoso Evelyn Glennie, at whose request the piece was composed and who also gave the first performance with Royal Flanders Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Kwamé Ryan in Antwerp in 2002. The work for solo percussion and symphony orchestra has got several performances and released on CD „Magma” (EMI Virgin Classics, 2007).
