Mikk Murdvee will conduct new piece by Mihkel Kerem

On January 24 at 7 p.m. Mihkel Kerem’s „Restless night” for string orchestra will be premiered in Estonian Christian Pentecostal Church’s Toompea Centre (Toompea 3, Tallinn). Concert „Young conductors” organised by Tallinn Philharmonic Society presents Mikk Murdvee, who will perform in the role of violin soloist and conductor in front of the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra Louis Spohr’s Violin Concerto No. 8 and Keith Jarret’s „Elegy”.

Mihkel Kerem (b. 1981) is violinist and composer of Estonian younger generation. He has written nearly 100 works, including 3 symphonies, Concerto for two cellos and orchestra, 8 string quartets and others. Kerem started his composition studies at Tallinn Music High School under Mati Kuulberg and continued with Jaan Rääts at the Estonian Academy of Music, where he also studied violin in Mirjam Kerem’s class. Recently he obtained master degree at the London Royal College of Music, where he studied violin with Levon Chilingirian and composition with William Mival.

Mikk Murdvee (b. 1980) is young Estonian violinist and conductor. He has studied violin at the Estonian Academy of Music and Helsinki Sibelius Academy, also conducting in the latter one under the tutelage of Leif Segerstam, Jorma Panula, Hannu Lintu and others. Murdvee has conducted Tallinn Chamber Orchestra and several Finnish orchestras. He is a chief conductor of the Ylioppilaskunnan Soittajat (Helsinki University Symphony Orchestra) since 2007.
