Koit Soasepp

b. November 19, 1972

Bass Koit Soasepp studied piano and tuba in children’s music school and graduated from Estonian University of Life Sciences in Tartu. After some 15 years in agribusiness he decided to change careers and started vocal studies with Professor Jaakko Ryhänen at Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre in 2009.

In 2010 he already debuted as soloist at Estonian National Opera, in 2010–2012 he was engaged as soloist-apprentice at Finnish National Opera and since 2012 he is a soloist at Finnish National Opera, being one of the busiest member.

His repertoire consists of several bass roles: Prince Gremin (Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin), Pimen (Modest Mussrogsky’s Boris Godunov), Sarastro (Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte), Bartolo (Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro), Il Commendatore (Mozart’s Don Giovanni), Ramfis (Giuseppe Verdi’s Aida), Sparafucile (Verdi’s Rigoletto), Grenvil (Verdi’s La Traviata), The Grand Inquisitor (Verdi’s Don Carlos), Titurel and Grail Knight (Richard Wagner’s Parsifal), Zuniga (Georges Bizet’s Carmen), Lavrenti (Jüri Reinvere’s Purge), Robin Hood (Jukka Linkola’s Little John), Bonzo (Giachomo Puccini’s Madama Butterfly), Rambaldo (Puccini’s La rondine), Colline (Puccini’s La bohème), Timur (Puccini’s Turandot), Sid (Puccini’s La fanciulla del West), Tervamies (Oskar Merikanto’s Juha), Hans Foltz (Wagner’s Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg), Talpa (Puccini’s Il tabarro), Tiera (Aulis Sallinen’s Kullervo).

As a guest Soasepp has appiered at Estonian National Opera, Theatre Vanemuine, Latvian National Opera,  Savonlinna Opera Festival (Finland), Saaremaa Opera Days and Komische Oper Berlin.

This banker was /.../ magnificently portrayed by the Estonian singer Koit Soasepp, who is becoming one of the pillars of Finnish National Opera. He is a good actor and has an imposing bass.
