Johan Randvere

Johan Randvere is a charismatic and versatile artist and one of the brightest pianists of his generation. He began his piano studies at the age of 7 at the Võru Music School. He graduated in piano from Tallinn Music High School with Marja Jürisson and Prof Ivari Ilja and from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre under the guidance of Prof Ivari Ilja. He further developed his piano skills at the Milan Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory with Prof Valerio Premuroso(2012–2015). Since 2017, he has been working on his PhD in the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre in the class of Prof Ivari Ilja. He has participated in the master courses of Andrei Gavrilov, Ronan O’Hora, Rolf Plagge, Hui-Ying Liu-Tawastsjerna, Julian Martin, and Frederic Rzewski.

Johan Randvere has won prizes at numerous national and international competitions, including 1st prize at the international piano competition Klaviermusik in Vilnius (2008), 1st prize and Grand Prix at the Catania Music Competition in Italy (2012), 1st prize and Grand Prix at the Andrea Baldi International Piano Competition in Italy (2014), 2nd prize at the EPTA International Piano Competition in Belgium (2010) and 2nd prize at the 8th Estonian National Competition of Pianists (2014). Additionally, he has been the finalist of the TV competition Classic Stars 2013 and has received with Maaren Vihermäe (violin) and Theodor Sink (cello) the Audience Award and the Special Award of Holland Music Sessions at the contest festival Con brio (2010).

Performing regularly both as a soloist and a chamber musician Johan Randvere has given concerts in Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, the Netherlands, Italy, Belarus, Russia, the US, and elsewhere. He has played in prestigious concert venues, such as Carnegie Hall in New York and the Great Hall of the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow. As a soloist, he has performed with the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, the Tyumen Philharmonic Orchestra, the Belarus State Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Maladzetshna Symphony Orchestra, the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra Uue Tänava Orchestra, and the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre Symphony Orchestra under conductors such as Kristiina Poska, Risto Joost, Grigori Soroka, Jüri Alperten, Erki Pehk, Mihhail Gerts, Toomas Vavilov, Sasha Mäkilä, Kaspar Mänd, Jaan Ots and others. As a chamber musician, he regularly performs with many outstanding musicians both in Estonia and abroad.

He is the host of the radio broadcast Black Key, White Key on Estonian classical music radio Klassikaraadio and the TV competition Classic Stars for young musicians on Estonian Television. He also hosts his own talk show, Spotlight with Johan Randvere, on YouTube.

Johan Randvere was awarded the Marje and Kuldar Sink PLMF Young Musician Award (2014) and has received the “Ela ja Sära” grant from the Cultural Endowment of Estonia (2017) and the Artur Lemba scholarship (2019).
