Forum on Estonian Music in Helsinki, Finland

On May 18–21, the first forum on Estonian music organised by Tuglas Society will take place in Helsinki. The initiator and artistic director of the forum is Andrus Kallastu, Estonian composer living in Finland.

The purpose of the enterprise is to give to the Finnish audience opportunity to get acquainted with Estonian music. The forum of Estonian music comprises a symposium, a sell-out exhibition and concerts. A number of Estonian and Finnish music researchers and musicians have been engaged in the symposium and concerts. At the exhibition selling, Estonian music institutions, publications and recordings will be presented. This year, the forum is held under the title “Seven great T’s in Estonian music: Tobias, Tubin, Tamberg, Tormis, Tüür, Tulev, Tulve.” The subject is chosen to introduce Estonian music as a century-long historical process. The forum takes place in co-operation of the Tuglas Society, Estonian Music Information Centre, Estonian Composers’ Union, Estonian Embassy in Helsinki, University of Helsinki Department of Musicology, Cyberstudio, International Eduard Tubin Society, REPOO ry, Scripta Musicalia, Sibelius Academy Composition and Music Theory Department, Finnish Literature Society, Finnish Composers’ Union, Taivallahti Congregation ao.
