Estonian premiere of Tõnu Kõrvits’s choral work at the Cyrillus Kreek Music Days

On May 28 to 30, Cyrillus Kreek Music Days

will take place in Haapsalu within Tõnu Kõrvits’s piece will receive Estonian premiere performance.

On May 28 at 8 pm, ensemble Paabel will perform at the Yard of Convent. Paabel consists of five musicians and they make music which is their joint creative work, governed by a symbiosis between folk, jazz and rock music. Their music largely consists of intertwined old instrumental pieces or songs.

On May 30 at 7 pm, concert entitled How Kreek Arranged Sweden and Russian Tunes will be held at Haapsalu Dome Church. Concert will feature under the guidance of Tõnu Kaljuste Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir, saxophone quartet SaxEsta and choirs from Haapsalu. The program includes Hymns from The Western Coast for mixed choir and saxophone quartet by Tõnu Kõrvits (2009, text: traditonal) which will make its Estonian premiere. The piece was first performed in April 2009 in Sweden by Swedish Radio Choir and Stockholm Saxophone Qartet, conducted by Tõnu Kaljuste.

Cyrillus Kreek Music Days in Haapsalu are the opening event of the Nargen Festival held from May 28 to September 17 which includes several cultural events in various places in Estonia. Festival, initiated by conductor Tõnu Kaljuste, presents also Veljo Tormis Festival, Arvo Pärt Festival, Nargen Festival Summer Symhony and the performances of Jaan Tätte’s play Flyers.
