Concert series “Tallinn Church Renaissance” will begin

The concert series starting tomorrow is part of the project Tallinn Church Renaissance initiated by Tallinn Cultural Heritage Department in 2002 and introduces freshly renovated churches in Tallinn, their history and traditions. In every Thursday in August different musical collectives will perform in these churches: ensembles Orthodox Singers and Heinavanker, St. Michael’s Boys’ Choir, Helin-Mari Arder Trio and others. Concerts will take place in cooperation with music society Crescendo.

On August 7, vocal group Orthodox Singers with Valeri Petrov conducting will give a concert in Tallinn Dome Church. Program consists of Russian orthodox music, including works by Sergey Rachmaninov, Pavel Chesnokov, Valeri Petrov and Pyotr Tchaikovsky.

On August 14, St. Michael’s Boys’ Choir, Tartu Boys’ Choir and chamber orchestra Collegium Consonante conducted by Lehari Kaustel will give the performance of Urmas Sisask’s Mass No. 5. Work entitled as Chateau Rocher is written on the poem by Einar Laigna-Mühlenbach and traditional liturgical text and was premiered in May 2008 by the same performers. Concert will take place in Tallinn St. John’s Church.

On August 21, Helin-Mari Arder Trio (Helin-Mari Arder - vocal, Teet Raik - guitar, Ara Yaralyan – double bass) will perform in St. Olaf’s Church Lady Chapel.

On August 28, concert of Heinavanker (ensemble dedicated to older sacred music) will take place in Tallinn Swedish St. Michael’s Church.

Concerts will start at 6 pm, entrance is free.
