Atlan Karp

Baritone Atlan Karp has received a Master’s degree from the Sibelius Academy in Finland. In 2007–2012, he was an opera soloist in Theater Vanemuine in Tartu. Currently, he is a freelancer.

Atlan Karp’s main roles in opera include Pimpinone (G. P. Telemann „Pimpinone“), Tonio (R. Leoncavallo „I Pagliacci“), Count Gil (E. Wolf-Ferrari „Il segreto di Susanna“), Alberich (R. Wagner „Das Rheingold“), Friedrich von Telramund (R. Wagner „Lohengrin“), Kurwenal (R. Wagner „Tristan und Isolde“), Klingsor (R. Wagner „Parsifal“), Iago (G. Verdi „Otello“), Rigoletto (G. Verdi „Rigoletto“), Il Conte di Luna (G. Verdi „Il trovatore“), Scarpia (G. Puccini „Tosca“), Jack Rance (G. Puccini „La fanciulla del West“), Sharpless (G. Puccini „Madama Butterfly“), Don Giovanni (W. A. Mozart „Don Giovanni“), Figaro and  Conte d’Almaviva (W. A. Mozart „Le nozze di Figaro“), don Alfonso (W. A. Mozart „Così fan tutte“), Vodnik (A. Dvořák „Russalka“).

Atlan Karp’s extensive concert repertoire includes large-scale vocal works with a symphony orchestra (C. Orff „Carmina Burana“, J. Brahms „Ein Deutsches Requiem“, R. Vaughan Williams „A Sea Symphony“, Ludwig van Beethoven Symphony No. 9, S. Rachmaninov „The Bells“, W. A. Mozart „Krönungsmesse“, J. Rutter „Mass of the Children“ – premiere in Estonia, S. Gubaidulina „Über Liebe und Haβ“ – world premiere, G. Rossini „Petite Messe solennelle“, C. Saint-Saëns „Oratorio de Noêl“ etc) and different song cycles (R. Schumann „Dichterliebe“, F. Schubert „Winterreise“ and „Schwanengesang“, G. Mahler „Kindertotenlieder“, J. Brahms „Vier ernste Gesänge“, M. Ravel „Don Quichotte a Dulcinee“, J. Ibert „Chansons de don Quichotte“, M. Mussorgsky „Songs and Dances of Death“, G. Sviridov „Songs on Words by Robert Burns“, E. Mägi „Haikus“, E. Tamberg „Five Romances to Poems of Sándor Petőfi“ etc) by both contemporary and classical composers.

Atlan Karp has performed on theater and concert stages in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, Italy, Germany, Israel and Bulgaria. He is a founding member of an opera company Opera Veto (2017).

In 2019, Atlan won the Music Award of Estonian Theater Association for forceful and impelling roles of Jack Rance and Count Gil in Giacomo Puccini’s opera „La fanciulla del West“ (Estonian National Opera) and Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari’s intermezzo in one act „Il segreto di Susanna“ (Opera Veto).
