Arvo Pärt’s music in London

On April 28, a day dedicated to Arvo Pärt’s music is held at London Barbican Centre, featuring a discussion circle, film presentation and three concerts. Among the works by Arvo Pärt, the music inspired by his creation will be heard.

The little festival will culminate in an evening concert in Barbican Hall, where BBC Symphony Orchestra with Tõnu Kaljuste performs Pärt’s 1st and 3rd Symphonies, Tabula rasa (violin soloists Alina Ibragimova and Barnabás Kelemen), Silhouette and Berliner Messe with BBC Symphony Chorus.

The day is part of a series of musical events organised by the BBC under the title Total Immersion, and takes place in co-operation with international festival-symposion (M)other Russia: Evolution or Revolution?, held in London from April 26 to 29.

On April 26, Arvo Pärt’s work Adam’s Lament was for the first time performed in front of London’s public. The concert was held in Queen Elizabeth Hall at Southbank Centre and featured soloists Katherine Watson (soprano), Patricia Orr (alto), John McMunn (tenor) and Ashley Riches (bass), London Orchestra da Camera and Crouch End Festival Chorus conducted by David Temple.
Adam’s Lament’s
British premiere took place in Cambridge in summer 2010, one month after the work’s world premiere in Istanbul Hagia Irene church.
