Ülo Krigul and Maria Kõrvits were successful at the International Rostrum of Composers

Langedes ülespoole, taeva kaarjasse kaussi (falling up into the bowl of sky) by young Estonian composer Maria Kõrvits (b. 1987) achieved the first prize in the category of composers under 30 at the 63rd International Rostrum of Composers (IRC) held in Wroclaw, from May 16 to 21, 2016. Ülo Krigul’s Vesi ise for mixed choir and phonogram gained the 2nd place in the general category. This year’s winner of the general categroy is Partendo, Lasciando le erbe tali quali sono for countertenor and ensemble by Swiss composer Oscar Bianchi.

The Rostrum’s aim is to foster and disseminate contemporary music globally, via the medium of radio. The best compositions presented at the Rostrum, subsequently introduced and promoted by a network consisting of more than 30 national broadcasters, will be heard in an impressive number of countries on different continents. The 2016 Rostrum gathered representatives from 27 national radio networks from four continents, which presented 55 works composed within the five years preceding the Rostrum.
