On September 9, composer Urmas Sisask celebrates his 50th birthday. Sisask has gained wide popularity foremost with his choral works and piano music. The main sources of his music is astronomy and folklore. Sisask has studied composition in Tallinn Music High School under Anatoli Garshnek, René Eespere and Mati Kuulberg and graduated from the Tallinn State Conservatory as the student of René Eespere in 1985. |
The season opening concert of Pärnu City Orchestra and Pärnu Concert Hall is dedicated to the jubilee of Urmas Sisask. Concert program consists of piano cycle Pleiades (1986), satellite concerto Triangulation for electric violin and string orchestra (2006), Te Deum for mixed choir and string orchestra (1992) and Symphony No. 2 Polaris for two pianos and symphony orchestra (1992). Together with Pärnu City Orchestra also Pärnu Chamber Choir, Tiit Kikas (electric violin) and piano duo Mati Mikalai – Kai Ratassepp will perform, conductor is Jüri Alperten. Concerts will take place on September 15 at 7 pm in Pärnu Concert Hall and September 17 at 7 pm in Jõhvi Concert Hall. Concerts are organised by Pärnu Philharmonic Society in cooperation with Estonian State Concert Institute Eesti Kontsert.
In September, Estonian classical music radio Klassikaraadio celebrates Urmas Sisask’s jubilee with three broadcasts:
On September 1, concert recording from the premiere of Mass No. 6 (2009) could be listened.
On September 9 at 9 pm, talk show Composer, Who Are You? will go on the air.
On September 15 at 7 pm, season opening concert of Pärnu City Orchestra and Pärnu Concert Hall will be live broadcasted.
Urmas Sisask’s Mass No. 6 Madis’s Mass will be performed on September 25 at 6 pm in Tallinn St. John’s Church. Work will be presented by Children's choir Riinimanda, Mitte-Riinimanda youth and alumni choir, conductors Urve Uusberg, Pärt Uusberg, Sirlen Rekkor and Jaanika Kilgi, Hille Poroson (organ), Heli Kendra (director of chamber ensemble). Concert is organised by Pille Lill Music Fund in cooperation with Rapla Church Music Festival.
